And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life. (Genesis 1:20 KJV)
The first mention of water in Scripture is found in Genesis 1:2, and the last mention is found in Revelation 22:17. In between those two books, water flows right through the pages of Scripture. Did you ever wonder why God used water as the starting material when he created everything? Psalm 24:1–2 says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.”
Water is also the chemical most mentioned in the Bible. It has a number of physical and chemical properties that make it unique and necessary for living things. However, since pure water is virtually colorless and has no taste or smell, you might be tempted to think, “What could be more boring?” But it is the hidden qualities of water, like hydrogen bonding, density, surface tension, unusually high boiling point, and heat capacity, that make water a most interesting subject.
In this interactive workshop, volunteers will be able to participate in demonstrations of water’s unique properties and discover the secrets behind the miracle of water. Enjoy and understand the science behind engaging demonstrations such as “Pouring Water Sideways,” “Upside-Down Water,” “Non-Burning Rag,” and “Turning Lot’s Wife Into a Pillar of Salt.” Have you ever seen a volunteer’s hand set on fire but not hurt? Maybe it will be yours!
Subject to availability, you can book private workshops for groups. The minimum group size is 25, and the maximum is 70. To book your private event, please email our programs team or call 888-582-4253 ext. 229.
