Carbon Dating Does Not Prove Millions of Years

Carbon dating is incapable of proving evolution over millions of years. After about 100,000 years, carbon-14 decays entirely.

Many people have been taught that carbon dating proves that the earth is billions of years old. However, carbon-14 dating is not used to calculate the earth’s age. Even if it were, it never yields dates in the millions or billions of years because the half-life of carbon-14 is 5,730 years. Also, carbon-14 dating has a practical limit of 65,000–70,000 years. Isotopes with longer half-lives, such as uranium-238, are used to calculate dates in the billions of years.

The Most Reliable Dating Method

Without question, consulting a reliable eyewitness is the best method to discover the age of something. For example, a man can accurately determine his age based on his birth certificate because it was signed by reliable eyewitnesses to his birth. The Bible provides God’s eyewitness testimony of how and when He created the earth.

God has always existed, knows all things, and cannot lie. Therefore, His Word is the infallible source of information regarding the age of the earth.
