The Truth About Abortion

by Creation Museum on January 15, 2026

Each January, Sanctity of Life Sunday calls churches and families across America to pause, reflect, and speak clearly about the value of human life. This year, Sanctity of Life Sunday falls on January 18, 2026, just days before the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.

When you visit our Fearfully & Wonderfully Made exhibit inside the Creation Museum, you can learn more about the sanctity of life, the truth of abortion, and how Christians should respond.

The Truth About Abortion

In medical terminology, the termination of a pregnancy prior to delivery is called an abortion. Miscarriages are technically referred to as involuntary spontaneous abortions. When a woman voluntarily terminates her pregnancy, it is known as an induced abortion, and this is what is generally meant by the term abortion.

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court of the United States rendered a 7–2 ruling in Roe v. Wade that essentially legalized abortion throughout the country by striking down state and federal regulations against the procedure. As of January 2020, an estimated 60 million legal abortions have been performed in the United States. This is more than the combined population of California and New York.

Countering Popular Arguments for Abortion

A detailed answer to every argument for abortion is beyond the scope of our Fearfully & Wonderfully Made exhibit and book, but brief responses are given to some of them to provide a proper perspective and illustrate how most of them distract from the real issue: The baby in the womb is a human being made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26), and the Lord hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16–17).

“The embryo or fetus is just a clump of cells.”

As this exhibit has demonstrated, ultrasounds and other medical advancements have shown this to be an outdated argument.

“It’s a woman’s body, so it should be her choice.”

Indeed, the baby develops inside the mother, whose body undergoes significant changes, but the baby is not part of the mother’s body. A pregnant woman’s body does not have four arms, four legs, and two heads. Abortion destroys the baby’s body—not the mother’s body.

“What if a woman became pregnant through rape or incest?”

In these tragic situations, the baby should not be killed for someone else’s immoral act. Also, rare situations like these should not be used as justification for abortion on demand at any time and for any reason.

“The baby won’t have a good life because they will be poor, disabled, etc.”

Human value is not based on one’s socioeconomic status or health. Offering the baby for adoption is a godly alternative for families who believe they are incapable of raising a child at the time.

“Pro-lifers just want to control women’s bodies.”

The pro-life movement is not about controlling a woman’s body. In fact, many people in the movement are women, and more than half of aborted babies are female. The primary objection to abortion is that the procedure kills a human being.

“It is inconsistent to be pro-life while being in favor of the death penalty.”

This argument attempts to change the subject by introducing an irrelevant topic. Abortions end the life of the most innocent, while the death penalty is reserved for violent criminals.
