Genesis 2:19–20 tells us,
Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field.
Adam named only “birds,” “cattle,” and “beasts of the field”—probably only animals closely associated with man and not “beasts of the earth” or “creeping things.” If the created kinds correspond to modern families—as many creation biologists believe—then Adam named fewer than two hundred animals. Naming all these animals would require only a few hours at most.
Creation biologists believe that God put the potential for much variety within each created kind. With so much variety to choose from, we don’t know exactly what the original representatives looked like. Some of the possibilities are displayed in our Garden of Eden exhibit.
