September 3: Deaf Day 2012

We’re gearing up for our third annual Deaf Day event at the Creation Museum. This yearly event features ASL interpreters, deaf volunteers, and text-based captioning. (By the way, many of the museum’s videos are regularly open-captioned for all of our guests to enjoy!) On Deaf Day all planetarium presentations will be captioned. Other areas feature ASL interpreters providing live interpretation of presentations such as The Last Adam.

Interpretation will be provided throughout the museum from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Then at 4:00, guests are invited to visit the Legacy Hall lobby for Bruster’s ice cream at a special price—and free coffee for deaf guests.

Around 4:30, deaf-led programming will begin in Legacy Hall. A team from Deaf Missions will present dramas and “ABC” stories, and interpreters will help any hearing guests who don’t know American Sign Language follow the action!

Deaf guests and their immediate families receive 50% off museum admission (see the brochure for coupon and details). Also, Deaf Missions has generously offered to give every deaf guest a copy of the book of Genesis in American Sign Language (one per family).
