Hi everyone. Todd here again with another membership update. Today, we thought we'd select from one of our over 6,000 Charter Members and do a little Q & A with them about their experience with Answers in Genesis and why they chose to support the Creation Museum project.
Mark R. Scott III attends Park Chapel Christian Church in the Indianapolis area. He is also a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and plans on attending our 3rd Annual Creation Museum Motorcycle Rally this September. He had some exciting things to share about how Answers in Genesis has helped to strengthen his faith and his confidence in the Bible.
Todd: What was your first exposure to Answers in Genesis?
Mark: My girlfriend had bought an Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution DVD, and I was hooked. I went back to find as much information as I could. Some friends at church had also shown me some tracts of the ministry and from there I found the website and used that information to teach a class at my church back in September of 2004. It included From Evolution to Creation, Gary Parker's DVD, and also the 6 DVD set of Ken Ham's presentation, the Creation Mini-Series, and the 3 DVDs of the Incredible Creatures that Defy Evolution.
Todd: In what way has what you've learned through Answers in Genesis impacted your life? How have you used it in your walk of faith?
Mark: It has given me the ability to defend my faith when presented with scientific arguments. About 5 or 6 years ago I was really gripped with fear about death to the point of cold sweats in the middle of the night because I couldn't make sense of the science, all those years of evolutionary teaching haunting me. Now after Answers in Genesis, I can sleep like a baby, and the Bible is no longer just a book of stories, it is God's word and His revelation. It also empowered me to have a capacity for outreach. I can tell people now about dinosaurs and how they fit into God's plan, and the feasibility of the Ark. It can plant a seed.
A dentist came to my first class and he had always been an evolutionist and had two young daughters and really wanted to come to the class to find out what kind of mythology I was going to throw out there. It was interesting to have him talk to me on several occasions about the Answers in Genesis information, and watch him go from an evolutionist to a creationist firsthand.
Todd: Sounds like you've utilized Answers in Genesis quite a bit already. What made you want to become a Charter Member of the Creation Museum?
Mark: I really did it as a way to make up for my lack of first fruits tithing. When my pastor challenged us to test God on giving our first fruits to Him as a tithe offering, I hadn't exactly been giving to the Lord's work, and when I saw the easy payment plan, I thought, "What a great way to make up for not giving as much as I could." The amazing thing is, since I've started doing that, I've been having fewer paychecks and less money, but I have been able to give to my church and to pay for my membership with the Creation Museum.
Todd: What is the most exciting thing that you find about the Creation Museum?
Mark: I think the Creation Museum stands out for me because we can go to the Smithsonian, or the National Geographic store, but there's really no place for a creationist to go. I guess from a heartfelt standpoint, for me, the Creation Museum is a place I can point to and say I don't have a blind faith, and let me show you why. I can tell you about how God created, and how God created in six days, and if I can look around His creation and understand the truth of the Bible by what I see, how much more so can I depend on Him?
Todd: What would you say to people who are still thinking about joining the Creation Museum as a Charter Member?
Mark: I would say if you ever thought about Jesus' disciples being asked to drop their nets and follow him, if you've ever examined that question at all, I see this Creation Museum Charter Membership opportunity as a way to drop your net and follow Jesus. If the cross is a stumbling block to the Jew and foolishness to the Greek, and Christ is really the bridge, wouldn't you donate to build the bridge to bring people to Christ? If we're going to reach people the way Paul reached people, we're going to have to solidify the tools, and the Creation Museum is the only tool of this kind.
Todd: Thanks for your time!
Mark: Well, brother, thank you, it's a sheer honor and joy to be a part of this miracle and I thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk about the Creation Museum and how much of God's plan you are.
